JACK JACOBS FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, in partnership with Eagle Vision, are proud to present the 2024 Jack Jacobs Scholarships. Two (2) $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous high school students who plan on pursuing a post-secondary education, have a passion for sport and a commitment to the balance between sports and academics. This year’s scholarships will be presented to the recipients at an upcoming Blue Bomber Home Game in fall 2024.

Applications are open from April 1st, 2024 – May 31st, 2024, to athletes of all genders and non-gender conforming people who self-identify as having Indigenous heritage (which includes First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) from Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Applicants should be in their final year of high school and planning to attend a post-secondary institution in 2024.

The scholarships were created in the memory of Jack Jacobs, a proud member of the Creek peoples and a legendary quarterback who played for the Blue and Gold between 1950 and 1954. Jacobs, a two-time Grey Cup finalist, was a key figure in popularizing the use of the forward pass in professional football, bringing so many fans to Osborne Stadium that it led to the construction of Winnipeg Stadium in 1953 – known as ‘The House that Jack Built’ – to accommodate the higher attendances. He is also a member of both the Canadian Football Hall of Fame (1963) and the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame (1984).

Applications are open from April 1st, 2024 – May 31st, 2024.
